(Officially a Willie Desatoff approved video!)
I got a call in December 2002 inquiring about footage from the
weekend. I mentioned that I did tape it, and it came out fairly
well. The lighting was good enough to see clearly, the sound was
fairly pure, and the tripod was in use. The caller noted that
there were interested people in seeing my footage, so I took it to DVD
for quality and viewer convenience.
My personal opinion is that the contests came out as good as
expected. The shots were framed accurately, head to toe at all
times, very little camera movement (great for the trip to DVD!), and
the complete prelims, finals, jams, and allskates. I admit, it
was a rather touching moment to see Willie Desatoff please the crowd
when he busted into some bal action at the end of the judges jam.
As for the Lunchtime Interview... umm NEVER EVER AGAIN will I
think to myself that I can get by with handheld! TRIPODS ARE A
MUST! After the first 5 minutes, the camera's weight got to me.
The distant shot wobbled and wobbled often, although the close-up was
a good head shot while Willie gave his talk. The sound was as
good as the room acoustics allowed, while very discernable.
Overall, it's the entire Lunchtime talk for those who are interested.
Having majored in History, this is my favorite part!
The menu's are marked for easy navigation, although I don't have
the names of all the competitors. Rather than mispell most of
them, and wild guesses, I chose to label them simply as "Couple 1, 2,
etc". Some people may find the menu slow, depending on
their model of DVD player. For those people, I'll keep all my
future menu's as fast as the DVD specifications allow.
I hope the competitors are pleased with the results. The video runs
about 92 minutes in length. No instruction on this recording, as
Jonathan and Sylvia have tapes of their own.
